A hacker is someone who gains access to computer systems and networks by exploiting flaws in them. Hackers have often experienced computer programmers with an understanding of computer security.

Hackers are divided into groups based on the objective of their activity. The following list divides hackers into categories according to their intended use.

Ethical Hacker (White Hat): A hacker who gets access to systems in order to fix flaws that have been detected. Penetration testing and vulnerability assessments are also possible.

A hacker who gets illegal access to a computer system for personal advantage is known as a cracker (black hat). Typical motivations include stealing company data, violating the right to privacy, transferring monies from bank accounts, and so on.

Script Kids: A non-skilled individual who uses pre-made tools to get access to a computer system.

A hacktivist is a hacker who uses the internet to convey social, religious, or political ideas. This is commonly accomplished by hacking a website and posting a message on it.

Fracker: A hacker who identifies and exploits vulnerabilities in telephones rather than computers.
